Bronte Johnston (she/her)

I (she/her/elle) am a white settler, cis-gendered woman, and uninvited guest on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil- Waututh) Nations.

I also am a PhD Student within the School of Population and Public Health at The University of British Columbia (UBC) under the supervision of Dr. Kimberlyn McGrail. I have the pleasure of becoming involved with the Ask Us study through the support of Dr. Sarah Munro to explore my interests in youth contraception, specifically youth attitudes towards different forms of contraception as a part of my PhD thesis.

Hearing youth’s perspectives is important to me because as a teenager I, like many, struggled with reproductive health. I want to help understand how better care can be provided to youth. Additionally, I am involved in other contraception research at UBC as a Work Learn Student within the Schummers Lab.

Previously, to support my community, I volunteered for several years as NICU baby cuddler to help support the wellbeing of babies and their loved ones. This time really solidified my interests to pursue graduate school and focus my research on obstetrics and genecology.

Outside of work, I love to spend time outside running (ideally with my dogs), participating in triathlons, and skiing as well as being with loved ones.
